One Piece a Japanese manga series that has run from 1997 to the present day. It also has an anime adaptation that ran from 1999 to the present.

If you didn’t know the storyline, “The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as "One Piece" in order to become the next Pirate King.”, is what the Wikipedia page states.

It’s one of Nathan’s favorite manga series and I just started watching the anime this year . I plan to continue the story through manga (so I can get through it quicker).

We bought the One Piece Pirate Recipes and I wanted to try the Exploding Apples first! See below for the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples

  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 tsp. lemon juice

  • 4 cardamom pods

  • 1 1/2 T butter

  • 4 tsp granulated sugar

Step 1:

Rinse off the apples and slice them in half, lengthwise.

Scoop out the seeds. Break your cinnamon sticks in half (unfortunately this might make them split lengthwise as well).

Add lemon juice, butter (mine was room temperature), and cardamom to the apple surface.

Dampen one end of the stick so that it won’t burn in the oven, and stick the dry side into the pitted part of the apple.

Put a generous amount of granulated sugar over the apple surface.

Step 2:

Cover the bottom of the apple with tinfoil, to create a bowl-like shape. The juices will run out so you want to make sure the foil will catch it all.

You can bake the applies in a toaster oven or you can follow what I did and put it in my regular oven at 375 for 45 minutes.

Step 3:

Enjoy! Except….

The apples will be very hot so you can let them cool for a few minutes before eating.

I suggest you pair this with a bowl of ice-cream!

If I weren’t trying to make this a genuine food item from One Piece, I would’ve added more cinnamon and other baking spices to enhance the flavor. Personally, this alone tasted just like applesauce.

It inspired me to try other baked apple recipes using pie crumbs and I’d love to know what your favorite recipes with apples are, OR what food item from One Piece looks most delicious to you!
